Transaction banking group forms MENA council

InstituteBAFT, an association for international transaction banking, has formed a council for the Middle East and North Africa region at an inaugural meeting in Dubai.

The council aims to promote a culture of compliance and anti-terrorism finance, says Faisal Lalani, council co-chair who is also head of international and institutional banking at Dubai-based Emirates NBD. His co-chair is Maurice Iskandar, head of international at Banque Libano-Francaise.

Tod Burwell, BAFT president, says the MENA council will help banks “shape documents, policies and decisions affecting them”.

BAFT was formed by the merger of the Bankers Association for Finance and Trade and the International Financial Services Association. Its history goes back 85 years.

BAFT says the MENA council was organised with the assistance of Sunil Rao, head of financial institutions at Barclays corporate banking division.
