BLME appoints ex-NBK man as new CEO

Handshake 3The Bank of London and the Middle East (BLME) will appoint Jabra Ghandour as its new chief executive and board member on March 25.

Ghandour joined BLME at the end of last year after 13 years at the National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) Group, most recently as managing director and board member of the International Bank of Qatar representing NBK. He is charged with enlarging BLME’s wealth management business as well as its corporate banking activities.

Ghandour will replace Michael Williams, who has served as interim chief executive since May 2015. Humphrey Percy, who was chief executive since 2006, stepped down in June of the same year.

Adel Al Majed, chairman of BLME, said Ghandour will create new product and investment opportunities for investors in the Gulf. “This is an exciting time for the bank, as we come to the end of our major strategic review,” he said.

Ghandour said he aimed to substantially increase the firm’s wealth management products and services for its clients in the Gulf.
