Investec Asset Management has hired Peter Baird as managing principal of its African private equity funds.
Baird joins from Standard Chartered in Johannesburg, where he helped to create a portfolio of 11 companies worth $900 million as the firm’s head of African private equity.
“While we are a global investment firm, our heritage and presence in Africa means that we are not only well placed to share our investment insights with clients, but committed to the long-term future of the continent,” said Domenico Ferrini, co-chief investment officer at Investec.
Set up nearly ten years ago, Investec’s private equity division forms part of a broad private markets business covering unlisted credit and infrastructure.
The firm’s infrastructure department gained a boost last year when the firm won a mandate to manage the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund, supported by a several European governments among others.
