Kuwaiti international investment drops by 11%

The level of international investment made by Kuwait declined in the second quarter by 11.4% year-on-year, according to statistics from the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK).

Total international investment reached $102.97 billion compared to $115.91 billion for the same period in 2018. There was also a quarterly decline of 6.8% between the international investment in Q1 and Q2.

Total assets fell year-on-year from $189.44 billion to $192.34 billion while overall liabilities rose year-on-year, from $76.37 billion to $87.51 billion.

The CBK’s statistics also showed that external debt rose year-on-year in Q2, from $53.16 billion to $63.87 billion.

There was also a 4.7% quarterly rise in external debt, comprising both government and private sector debt, from $61 billion in Q1.
