Neuberger Berman appoints new Mena chief

A former regional head of private equity firm KKR has been hired as the new executive chairman and head of Middle East and Africa for UK-based investment manager Neuberger Berman.

The new appointee, Kaveh Samie, will be based in Dubai and will be responsible for overseeing client coverage across the region.

Samie was previously chief executive and head of Middle East and new markets for KKR and prior to that was employed at HSBC and Citigroup in a career that has spanned more than 30 years to date.

He replaces Jahangir Aka, who is returning to London in a role focused more on official institutions, although he will work closely with his successor to ensure a smooth transition, according to Neuberger Berman.

“Since we opened our Dubai office in 2012, we have seen tremendous change in the Middle East regarding the way we partner with local clients, as well as opportunities for our investment franchise,” said chairman and chief executive, George Walker. “With [Samie’s] extensive experience and network, we hope to continue to broaden and deepen our client and investment dialogue.”
